Build It: From Plan to Finished Product
This is it. The final lesson. You have the tools, the materials, the techniques, and the plan. Now you build. This is the most satisfying lesson in the entire curriculum — because at the end, you'll have something real. Something you made with your own hands.
The Build Process
Step 1: Set Up Your Workspace
Clear a flat area. Lay out all tools and materials. Have your plan visible. Ensure good lighting and ventilation. Put on safety glasses.
Step 2: Cut All Pieces
Follow your cut list. Measure twice, cut once. Label each piece with a pencil (e.g., "Left Side," "Top Shelf"). Stack neatly.
Step 3: Dry Fit
Assemble the project without glue or screws. Just hold pieces together to check that everything fits. This is your chance to catch errors before they're permanent. Does everything line up? Are the gaps acceptable?
Step 4: Sand Before Assembly
Sand all visible surfaces now — it's much harder to sand inside corners after assembly. 80 → 120 → 220 grit. Remove all dust with a damp cloth.
Step 5: Assemble
Follow your sequence plan. Apply glue where joints will be. Drive screws or nails. Check for square (use a try square or measure diagonals — if both diagonals are equal, it's square). Clamp where needed.
Step 6: Finish
Apply your chosen finish: paint, stain, oil, or varnish. Multiple thin coats are better than one thick coat. Allow proper drying time between coats (check the product label).
Step 7: Install or Use
Put your creation where it belongs. Step back. Look at it. You made that.

Through this entire curriculum — six subjects, twenty-six courses — you've learned things that most adults never learn:

- How systems (schools, governments, technology) shape your life
- Practical skills that give you independence
And now, with this final project, you've turned knowledge into something real. That's what education should be: not just knowing things, but being able to do things.

- Set aside a Saturday or Sunday.
- Follow the build process above, step by step.
- Work together. Everyone has a role: one measures, one cuts, one holds, one sands.
- Document the process: photos at each stage.
- When complete, celebrate! Put the finished product in its place.
- Take a family photo with your creation.
